Global mobile phone market in the second quarter of this year grew by more than 11.3% – up to 365.4 million units. Growth is observed for the first time in almost two years, the report, IDC.
World leader in sales of “mobile phones” is the company Nokia. However, the share of the Finnish manufacturer, in April-June, down from 33.8% to 24.2%. Compared to last year of delivery in the second quarter declined by 20.3% – from 111.1 million to 88.5 million phones. The share of smartphones Nokia, included in the total number of shipments also declined – the company managed to implement only 16.7 million units.

In the long term fate of Nokia, analysts say, will depend on the success of its smartphones with mobile operating system, Microsoft Windows Phone 7. Output of the first WP 7 devices from Nokia are expected this year. At the same time, the company strives to maintain the volume of shipments of cheap mobile phones based on platform Symbian. A few days ago came out the next version of the OS with new features and a number of improvements, code-named Symbian Anna.

Second place in shipments of mobile phones in the world is a South Korean manufacturer Samsung. According to IDC, in the second quarter, the company sold 70.2 million of its “mobile phones”. Compared with the same period last year, sales rose 10%, while market share declined from 19.4% to 19.2%.
The competition between Nokia and Samsung increased, while that for the supply is reduced, said IDC. The success of the Samsung is largely dependent on the popularity of current and future Android-smartphone.
The other manufacturer in South Korea, of LG Electronics, the world’s third mobile phone provider, supplies fell by 18.9% – from 30.6 million to 24.8 million units. During the reporting period, the company lost 2.5% of the market – its share fell from 9.3% to 6.8%.
To retain third place in the world market LG mobile phones have helped the successful sales of some models, in particular, low-cost smartphone LG Optimus. However, if the company fails to raise the demand for its new model, it can give up his position to another manufacturer, said IDC.
Best of all in the list of suppliers of mobile devices is feeling by Apple. At a time when other manufacturers are losing their market share, Apple, by contrast, shows significant growth. During the period from April to June, the U.S. company increased its share from 2.6% to 5.6%. For the second quarter, Apple sold 20.3 million iPhone. For comparison, during the same period last year were delivered 8.4 million of these smart phones, that is, the supply grew by 141.8%.
Apple reserves the highest growth rate among the world leaders, despite the fact that her latest smartphone – iPhone 4 – left more than a year ago, says IDC. Meanwhile, the fall is expected next novelty from Apple – iPhone the next generation.
Fifth in the list of the world’s leading providers of mobile phones has become a company ZTE. In the second quarter, the Chinese manufacturer was able to realize 16.6 million units – a 36% increase over the same period a year earlier. The share of ZTE in the market increased from 3.6% to 4.5%.
All other manufacturers share a 39.7% mobile phone market. Joint efforts they managed to sell 145 million “mobile phones” around the world.
